Ingredients:
- 1 can (15 oz / 425g) black beans, drained and rinsed
- 1/2 cup (60g) finely diced onion
- 2 cloves (6g) minced garlic
- 1/4 cup (30g) finely ground walnuts
- 2 tbsp (30ml) olive oil
- 1 tsp (5g) ground cumin
- 1 tsp (5g) smoked paprika
- 1/2 tsp (3g) garlic powder
- 1/2 tsp (3g) sea salt
- 1/4 tsp (1g) black pepper
Instructions:
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the rinsed black beans and press down with a potato masher until mostly broken but still chunky; avoid blending into a smooth paste.
- Stir the diced onion, minced garlic, and ground walnuts into the mashed beans.
- Fold in the ground cumin, smoked paprika, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper, mixing until the spices are evenly distributed and the mixture feels tacky.
- Divide the mixture into 4 equal portions and shape them into patties approximately 3/4 inch thick, pressing firmly with palms to ensure density.
- Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium-high heat until shimmering.
- Place patties in the pan and cook for 4–5 minutes per side without moving them, until a deep mahogany-colored crust forms and the center is heated through.
